Swanage:

The 4 day course based in Swanage on the Isle of Purbeck is a ideal location with a large variety of habitats within short travelling distance from your accommodation.

 

The course includes a range of practical investigations and classroom follow-up sessions which will help your students develop their research and field skills.

Practical fieldwork investigations will include:

Rocky shore ecology, zonation and limpet adaptations to exposed and sheltered sites at KImmeridge Bay.

Freshwater ecology and the use of biotic indicators in the River Piddle at Wareham.

Population estimates using the Lincoln Index in local woodlands.

Sand dune succession and management at Studland sand dunes.

Soil formation and conservation at a range of local sites.

Carbon sequestration in soils and woodlands at a range of local sites.

Platja D'Aro:

The 4 day course in the small resort of Platja D'Aro gives access to some stunning habitats all within a short coach journey from your hotel accommodation.

The course includes a range of practical investigations and classroom follow-up sessions which will help your students develop their research and field skills.

Practical fieldwork investigations will include:

Freshwater ecology and the use of biotic indicators in the Riu El Fluvia, Garrotxa Volcanic Park.

Sand dune succession and the management of wetland environments at Aiguamolls de L'Emporda Natural Park.

Carbon sequestration / woodland ecology in the cork oaks forests in the hills and valleys above Sant Antoni de Calonge

Population estimates using the Lincoln Index in local woodlands.

Soil formation, soil types and the management of soils under drought conditions close to Pals village.
