Jurassic Coast Walking Tours

Geography field studies on the Dorset co

Everyone has heard of The Jurassic Coast but my tours will enable you to really explore, enjoy and understand this wonderful stretch of coastline.

Visit remote beaches and sheer cliffs, find fossils, walk in the footsteps of giant dinosaurs, learn about the fantastic geological story told by the landscape, spot an abundance of wildlife and hear stories of smugglers, pirates, shipwrecks and ghosts.

My tours go to a variety of places depending on group size, weather and time of year. Some tours include the iconic sites of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door whereas others will visit the abandoned village of Tyneham, the ancient hill fort of Flowers Barrow, world famous Kimmeridge Bay or little known Chapmans Pool.

Regardless of the route I can guarantee plenty of stunning views and countless wonderful photo opportunities. I always include a lunch stop at a local pub or cafe in these tours and I can adapt the programme to suit individual interests and walking abilities.

I run my tours all year round and will always consider scheduling a tour for a private group or to run a tour on your chosen dates if required, just let me know.

About me

Hello! I am Barry Cullimore and I have lived on and taught about the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site for the past 24 years.

I am a qualified teacher and outdoor education professional with a degree in Geology and Geography.

I hold the UK Summer Mountain Leader Award and am trained in outdoor first aid.

I have walked and run along the full 93 miles of the World Heritage Site on numerous occasions; in my opinion it is the most beautiful part of coastline in the UK.

I can help you get the most from your time in Dorset and look forward to joining you in exploring the Jurassic Coast soon.

Exploring the Jurassic Coast on foot.

This tour starts at the iconic site of Lulworth Cove but soon heads off to explore some beautiful cliffs and coves that are rarely visited by the usual tourists. We finish with a quick trip to see Durdle Door. 5 hour tour with around 7 km of walking over footpaths, beaches and with moderate ascent and descent.

Night Hike the Jurassic Coast

An exciting tour that visits a remote stretch of coastline where we are away from the light pollution of nearby towns. We will see lots of wildlife and hear stories of smugglers and pirates, do some star gazing and finish in one of the UK's most unique pubs. 3 hour tour with around 4 km of walking over footpaths and with moderate ascent and descent.

A family adventure walk in the dark.

This is a fun and adventurous exploration of the countryside and coastline of Purbeck. It is made all the more exciting by venturing forth after dark though no need to be afraid as this adventure makes being out at night fun and enjoyable. 2 hour tour with around 3 km of gentle walking on tracks and with one gentle uphill climb.

Some recent reviews about my tours.

"I bought this experience for my husband and we had a wonderful day! Barry had a rich knowledge of the area (and beyond) and really has inspired us to go back and explore more of the coast with some brilliant other ideas of locations to visit. We thoroughly enjoyed going fossil hunting as well and have come home with some beautiful reminders of the day. I would really recommend the day out to anyone who likes a good explore".

"This really is a wonderful experience and it was definitely our best day whilst visiting Dorset. From detailed knowledge; to engrossing storytelling; to knowing the quiet, beautiful spots that let you truly experience the Jurassic Coast away from the crowds, Barry was brilliant at them all. Barry has that special quality of being passionate and knowledgeable about something and gaining great joy from sharing that passion and knowledge with others. We were very grateful for all that he shared and we came away with much more knowledge, and feeling like we’d experienced a very special part of the spectacular Jurassic Coast".

"Highlight of our weekend break! The host - Barry was incredible! It’s obvious that he is passionate about what he does. A great historian, with lots of tales to tell. He kept us interested throughout the walk. Highly recommended for adventurous and beginners alike. Barry will look after you all the way. The route he took us was incredible! Surreal. Thank you Barry!".
